Mentors

Do you have a family member with IDD who has a paid job in the community? Are you interested in supporting another parent or sibling who is starting this employment journey with their own family? Learn more about the opportunity to share your experiences and support another family below.

To participate, you must:
  • Have a family member with intellectual disability and/or autism who has a paid job or was recently employed
  • Be at least 18-years-old and live in Tennessee
  • Serve as an informal mentor to other parents or siblings starting on the road to employment
  • Provide advice and encouragement over the course of the year
  • Attend a three-hour training and receive a practical guide and other helpful resources
  • Multiple training dates will be offered this fall and winter
  • Meet at least monthly with your mentee. You can meet in-person, by phone, or by video.
  • Support other parents or siblings navigating the employment process with their family
  • Help us study the impact of parent mentorship on the employment outcomes of adults with IDD
  • Receive $350 for service as a mentor and completing all project surveys
